On the southern edge of the South Alsatian Hardtwald forest, original deciduous forest touches open farmland and meadows as well as gravel pits. A large part of the area is occupied by a quarry pond. Thanks to these diverse habitat types, the area is characterised by a whole range of rare animal and plant species, including, for example, the purple loosestrife, the thistle butterfly, the white rail and the river plover, as well as many dragonfly and butterfly species - also considered endangered.
The Entenlache is ideal for walking tours or simple hikes, but the area is not accessible for buggies or wheelchairs.
Tour
Follow rue de Muguets, close to the rue de Strasbourg stop of the Distribus coming from Saint-Louis to the end of the tarmac road. From there, follow the path between the edge of the forest, meadows and fields. On the right, there is a former gravel pit with open gravel areas, gravel walls and interesting flora and fauna. Following the path in a south-westerly direction, you cross under the railway line and below the road is a former quarry pond, which is now partly used as a fishpond. It is difficult to walk around the quarry pond and you have to turn back. After the passage under the railway line, however, you now turn off in a northerly direction and reach the large quarry pond. A small path parallel to the railway line leads along the quarry pond in a northerly direction and leads on a large circular path into the Hardtwald. Through the Hardtwald you return to the starting point of the hike.
Refreshments
Both Bartenheim and Blotzheim offer some restaurants and shopping facilities. There is also a small picnic and fire area on the circuit.
