The Birskopf recreation area is located at the estuary of the River Birs in the Basel and Birsfelden urban area and is extremely popular with the population because of the wide range of leisure, recreational and sporting opportunities it offers. The renaturalised shore zones offer a diverse flora and fauna and the gravel banks are a resting place for numerous migratory birds. The Birskopfsteg connects the two riverbank meadows at the mouth of the Bir.
