On the warm, dry southern slope of the Klusberg in Aesch, a wide variety of grape types thrive. Wines are made from them in several local wineries. At the same time, a walk in the Klus is a tour through near-natural forests and flower-rich meagre grasslands. A walk along the theme trail in the vineyards is recommended, where information boards describe the course of the year in the cultivation and care of the vines. If you are lucky, you will find small Jurassic fossils such as ammonites or sea urchin spines among the vines.

The vine growers in Klus pay attention to nature. The formerly bare ground under the vines is green again and dry stone walls provide shelter for wall lizards. Special vineyard plants, such as the wild tulip and the grape hyacinth, depend on these warm, dry sites.

In the wineries, which are located right in the vineyard, there is also the possibility to taste and buy the wine or to enjoy a fine winegrower's meal.

A detour to the upper parts of the valley at the Frohberg-Tschäpperli ruins leads through flower-rich meagre grassland and offers a fantastic view of the southern part of the lower Birstal.

For the sporty, the Vita Parcours starting at the car park offers the opportunity to keep fit in the near-natural landscape of forest and vineyards.

Refreshments

The Klusböden rest area is located above the vineyard offering a large barbecue area with plenty of wood, benches, tables and water from the large wooden fountain. The Locanda Klus in the middle of the vineyard serves regional and homemade dishes such as the Winzerteller (winegrower's plate). At the Klushof Koellreuter, the Beizli with wine tasting is open once a month. A small animal zoo also attracts children to the farm.
